Introduction

Imagination and Other Worlds
The Living Art of the late painter/artist James Cunningham 1948-1991

JamesLCunningham.com

My brother, in 1991 already a nationally known and respected abstract painter, died on the verge of international recognition.  His art was a much needed outlet for his vast imagination.  His art kept him centered and balanced, and kept those of us familiar with his work in wonder of his unique technique and expansive imagery.

I have tried to locate as many of Jim’s paintings as possible and digitize them for presentation here on this web site.  Without the generosity of the owners of these works this display would not be possible.  They are given great thanks and credit where appropriate.  Special thanks is given to the heirs of Dr. John D. and Suzanne Miller for sharing the paintings they own and communications with my brother with me for this site.  Gretchen Ratcliff (daughter) was particularly helpful and supportive.

My intension is to make this site as complete a representation of my brother’s art and professional life as possible.  I will be adding his paintings and other pertinent items as I discover them.

Jim’s art is timeless in its beauty, imaginative abstractions, and symmetry.  The purpose of this site is to share the marvelous works of  James Cunningham with a world unaware of him and the world that knew and loved his work.   It will resonate with young and old in this and in generations to come.
